Claim every open year of Rent Tax Credit
We check whether your tenancy qualifies, calculate the credit year by year and file the claim with Revenue — without missing the other reliefs on your return.
No refund, no fee · Everything handled online

Paying rent does not make the credit automatic
The credit depends on the property, tenancy, landlord relationship, housing support and Income Tax you paid. We check those conditions before filing.
Three steps to claim correctly
Tell us about the tenancy
Share the property, tenancy dates, rent paid and whether you are claiming for yourself, a work or study property, or an eligible child.
We check every open year
We verify the tenancy type, RTB position, landlord details, rent excluding services and the Income Tax available to absorb the credit.
You approve, we claim
You see the calculation and fee first. Once approved, we file the relevant returns with Revenue and handle any follow-up.
Get the tenancy details together
Claim only the rent itself
Utilities, meals, laundry and other services are not qualifying rent. Keep a clear yearly total and the records showing what you personally paid.
Revenue: qualifying conditions →15% of what we find, excl. VAT
No refund, no fee. We confirm the calculation and fee before filing, then Revenue pays the approved repayment to your registered bank account.
Questions tenants ask us
How much is the Rent Tax Credit worth?
The maximum is €500 for 2022 and 2023, and €1,000 from 2024 for a single claimant or other individual case. A jointly assessed couple may receive up to twice the individual maximum. Your actual credit is limited by qualifying rent and the Income Tax you owe for that year.
Can I claim for earlier years?
Yes, while the year remains within Revenue's four-year time limit. In 2026, a claim for the 2022 tax year must reach Revenue by 31 December 2026.
Does my tenancy need to be registered with the RTB?
If your tenancy is one that must be registered, it must meet the RTB registration requirement for the credit. Genuine rent-a-room or digs arrangements can qualify without RTB registration, subject to the other conditions.
Can I claim if I receive HAP or Rent Supplement?
No. Tenants receiving Housing Assistance Payment, Rent Supplement or support through a Rental Accommodation Scheme are excluded, including where they pay a top-up themselves.
Can I claim if my landlord is a relative?
A parent-child landlord relationship excludes a claim for your main home. Other family arrangements depend on the tenancy type and registration requirements; rent-a-room or digs arrangements with a relative do not qualify.
Can housemates each claim?
Each eligible tenant may claim based on the qualifying rent they personally paid, subject to their own Income Tax liability and the annual maximum. Keep clear payment records and make sure the tenancy was entered into with the landlord's consent.
Does the credit reduce USC or PRSI?
No. The Rent Tax Credit reduces Income Tax only. It does not reduce USC or PRSI, and any unused amount cannot create a refund beyond the Income Tax you paid.
