Taxed in Ireland on your ARF while living abroad? Claim it back
Irish tax is deducted from every ARF and vested PRSA withdrawal, wherever you live, and Revenue doesn't refund it automatically. We get the breakdown from your fund manager, apply your tax treaty and file the claim for every year still open.
15% of what we recover, excl. VAT · No refund, no fee · 100% online

Who can claim
The refund is for people who are no longer Irish tax resident and have had Irish tax deducted from withdrawals out of an Irish retirement fund. You're likely to have a claim if:
- You live outside Ireland and are tax resident in a country Ireland has a tax treaty with
- You draw money from an Irish ARF, a vested PRSA, a vested PEPP or an AMRF
- Irish tax was deducted from those withdrawals in 2022 or a later year
- You haven't already claimed it back for those years
Three steps, all online
- STEP 1
Tell us about your fund
Your fund manager or PRSA provider, where you live now and the years Irish tax was deducted. We confirm whether your treaty allows a refund before any work starts.
- STEP 2
We build the claim
We request the income, gains and capital breakdown from your fund manager, work out what your treaty lets you recover and prepare Revenue's claim form for your local tax office to certify.
- STEP 3
We file and follow up
We submit the certified claim to Revenue and handle their questions until the refund is paid in euro to your bank account.
Start with the basics
- Your PPS number and your current address abroad
- Your fund manager or PRSA provider and policy number
- Statements showing the withdrawals and the Irish tax deducted
- Your local tax office's stamp on the claim form, confirming you're resident there (we tell you exactly what to ask for)
- An account to receive the refund: account name, IBAN and BIC
Four-year deadline: 2022 closes on 31 December 2026
Revenue refunds tax only for the last four years (section 865 TCA 1997). Tax deducted from ARF withdrawals in 2022 must be claimed by 31 December 2026; after that it's lost. Once your tax office has stamped the claim form, it stays valid for five years, so later years are quicker.
15% of what we recover, excl. VAT
No refund, no fee. If your treaty leaves ARF income taxable only in Ireland, we tell you upfront and you pay nothing. You see the figures before we file.
Questions we get asked
Why is Irish tax deducted from my ARF if I live abroad?
Revenue treats ARF and vested PRSA withdrawals as payments out of a fund rather than a pension, so the pension article of most tax treaties doesn't apply and Revenue doesn't issue PAYE Exclusion Orders for them. Tax is deducted at source and can only be reclaimed afterwards.
How much of the tax can I get back?
It depends on your treaty and on what each withdrawal is made of. Each withdrawal is treated as the year's income and gains first, then earlier income and gains, then capital. Tax on the income and gains is usually refundable under the treaty; tax on the capital part only if the treaty allows it, and many Irish treaties don't.
How many years can I claim?
Four. Revenue only refunds tax for the last four years, so tax deducted in 2022 must be claimed by 31 December 2026. Earlier years are closed.
Does this work for a vested PRSA or a PEPP?
Yes. Revenue's claim form covers ARFs, vested PRSAs, vested PEPPs and AMRFs. AMRFs were abolished in 2021, but tax on AMRF withdrawals can still be claimed within the four-year limit.
Do you give advice on my pension or investments?
No. This is a tax refund service: we reclaim Irish tax under your treaty. For advice on transferring your pension, buying an annuity or changing funds, speak to a regulated financial adviser.
