Cookie Policy
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site function properly, remember your preferences, and — where you've agreed — understand how visitors use the site.
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies we use on irishtaxmate.ie, why, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
2. The Cookies We Use
We group our cookies into three categories. Below is what's actually running on this site today.
Strictly Necessary Cookies
These are required for the website to work and cannot be switched off. They don't require your consent.
The only cookie we set ourselves in this category is itm_cookie_consent (expires after 180 days). It stores your cookie choices — which categories you accepted or declined, and when you decided — so we don't ask you again on every page. It contains no personal information and isn't used to identify you.
Some parts of the site — the "Get Started" form, the chat widget, and the "60-second check" — keep what you've typed in your browser's own memory for the duration of your visit. That isn't a cookie and nothing is stored on your device once you close the tab.
Performance / Analytics Cookies
Only set if you accept the Analytics category. We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand which pages people find useful and how visitors move through the site, so we can improve it. Google Tag Manager itself doesn't set cookies — it's the container that loads Google Analytics.
The cookies set are:
_ga— distinguishes one visitor from another. Expires after 2 years._ga_JG41FHN8JY— keeps track of the current visit. The name is derived from our GA4 Measurement IDG-JG41FHN8JY. Expires after 2 years._gid— distinguishes visitors over a short window. Expires after 24 hours. [VERIFY: only set on some GA4 configurations]
Information collected this way is aggregated and doesn't identify you individually. If you decline or later withdraw consent, we remove these cookies and stop loading Google Analytics.
Marketing / Targeting Cookies
We're not currently running any advertising or remarketing tags, so no marketing cookies are set on this site today. The category still appears in our cookie banner because we may add advertising measurement tools (for example Google Ads or Meta advertising tools) in future. If we do, they will only load after you've accepted the Marketing category, and we'll update this page with the exact cookie names and durations before switching anything on.
3. Managing Your Preferences
When you first visit our website, you'll be asked to accept, reject, or customise non-essential cookies through our cookie banner. Nothing beyond the strictly necessary cookies is set until you make a choice. You can change your preference at any time using the Manage Cookies link in the footer of our website — if you turn a category off, we remove the cookies it set.
You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings — most browsers let you see what cookies are stored and delete them individually or altogether. Blocking all cookies may mean some parts of our website, including forms and interactive tools, don't work properly.
4. Third-Party Cookies
The only third party that currently sets cookies through our site is Google (Google Analytics, loaded via Google Tag Manager), and only after you've accepted the Analytics category. Those cookies are subject to Google's own privacy policy. We also use Google Consent Mode, which tells Google's tags whether you've consented before they do anything.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add a new tool to our website that sets cookies. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do.
