2027 figures as announced in Budget 2027 on 6 October 2026, subject to the Finance Bill: the standard-rate band, both credits and the USC 2% band ceiling (€28,700 → €30,300) move; the USC rates do not.

What changes if you are married, or pay into a pension

Same €30,000, 2026 rates, three situations:

SituationIncome taxNet per month
Single, no pension€2,000€2,191
Married, one income (band €53,000, credits €6,000)€0€2,358
Single, 5% pension contribution (€1,500 a year, relieved at 20%)€1,700€2,091

A married couple where both work keep their own credits and bands, so the single column applies to each. The pension row shows why contributions cost less than they look: the €1,500 comes off taxable income, but not USC or PRSI.

What a raise is worth on €30,000

The next €1,000 is taxed at 20% income tax, 3% USC and 4.35% PRSI, so you keep about €726 of it. The first round number many graduate and admin roles are advertised at. All of it sits in the 20% band; the USC 3% band starts to apply above €28,700 (€30,300 from 2027), which is why the effective rate creeps up from here.
